I am a queer and nonbinary (they/them) psychologist with over a decade of experience. I generally work from an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) framework, though I'm always seeking to integrate other approaches that may be a good fit for individual clients. Together, we’ll clarify what is most important to you, identify your life goals, and strategize ways to reduce your suffering while moving you closer to those goals.
My approach is transparent, intersectional, and above all: human. All of your identities are welcome here, so let’s talk about how your mental health intersects with race, gender, sexuality, spirituality, and all the other parts that make you, you. Because the personal is often political, we will create explicit space to acknowledge the ways your mental health is affected by systemic challenges.
I specialize in working with adults who identify across the spectrums of gender and sexual orientation, folx living with chronic pain and/or chronic illness, and those who are neurodivergent, and in supporting those recovering from narcissistic abuse and narcissistic relationships. I am explicitly affirming of covid conscious and of poly and kink communities. My (virtual) therapy room is a safe/brave space for anyone whose identity tends to be excluded from society.
I offer individual and partners therapy via tele-health. I also provide consultation and workshops to mental health providers, other disciplines, and organizations around topics of cultural competence.

If you have "out of network" benefits through your insurance, I can provide you with an itemized invoice called a "Super Bill" which you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement. Reimbursement is not guaranteed, however, and your insurance determines what amount to reimburse you. I encourage all clients to call their insurance to confirm benefits before initiating treatment.
We will work together during your intake and over the course of treatment to determine the appropriate session length for you.
Individual therapy sessions typically last 45-minutes.
Intakes, couples, family, and group sessions typically last 60 minutes.
The first step is to submit a request for a 20-minute free consultation (see below in the "Contact" section). During this consultation, we will learn a bit about one another and determine if Valued Directions is the right fit for your needs.
After the consultation, if we are a good fit, you'll schedule a 60-minute intake session. Between consultation and intake, I'll send you some forms to review and a registration questionnaire for you to complete.
During the intake, I'll ask questions about you, your symptoms, and your history. We will begin to identify treatment goals together, including identifying the frequency and duration of sessions that are most appropriate for you. We will also go over any questions you had from the forms.
Valued Directions Psychological Services, as one might expect, centers a number of values in work with clients.
Social justice. I strive toward anti-colonial practice which explicitly acknowledges and holds space for the ways in which socio-political contexts and histories, intersectional identities, societal power structures, and cultural norms and experiences inform not just symptoms you may experience, but also how the therapy process unfolds.
Equity. This manifests in my financial practices including remaining in network with insurance panels, providing pro bono services, and establishing fees in a way that actually increases accessibility. It also manifests in moment by moment session norms which are explicitly affirming of neurodivergence and your various intersectional cultural identities.
Transparency. As you've seen throughout this site, I am transparent about who I am and what experiences inform my work. During our work together, you'll also find that I am transparent about any policies or boundaries that arise.
Autonomy. You are the expert in your own experiences, and you are in the driver's seat of your life. While I will certainly bring my years of training and experience to the table, and while I do have certain ethical and legal obligations I must adhere to, to the furthest extent possible I will always hold space for your autonomy.
Overall:
Valued Directions is explicitly anti-racist, anti-colonial, pro-liberation, anti-capitalist, and passionately affirming of human diversity in all forms. All are welcome here, but hate is not.
